Dr Robert Melillo Talking About Autism and ADHD

Dr Robert Melillo is an expert on the issue of Autism and ADHD.  He has done research and written several books on the subject.  He explains that when you compare the numbers from 3 decades ago to the numbers today, we are facing a childhood epidemic:  3 decades ago it was 1 in 10,000 and now it is 1 in 50 children who have autism. ADHD is the leading childhood disorder and 1 in 4 children will be diagnosed with a learning disability.

Dr Robert Melillo explains that there is a “functional disconnection” between different parts of the brain and there is hope for healing this disconnection.  It has been found that the two sides of the brain are not developing at the same rate, which causes this disconnection. There has been a lot of research on the different treatments that are available, which do not use medications.

Dr Robert Melillo uses a technique called “Brain Balance” which helps both sides of the brain to come into balance.  The Right Brain can be developmentally delayed but a child can have a gifted Left Brain.  So Brain Balance helps to bring both sides of the brain into balance.  The treatment focuses on doing physical and mental exercises and adjusting the child’s diet, which all help to stimulate the weaker side of the brain to create functional connections – all without drugs and medication.

Dr Robert Melillo also discusses the “Risk Factors” and how parents can reduce the risk of having an Autistic Child by:

- Avoiding Pesticides
- Ensuring that You Don’t Have a Folic Acid Deficiency
- Doing Exercise
- Being Healthy Before Getting Pregnant and Staying Healthy Throughout the Pregnancy

What Parents Can Do to Help Their Children:

- Ensure lots of Physical Exercise
- Ensure that Children Avoid Playing Video Games so that Kids Stay Active

Getting children active so that they have an opportunity to develop both parts of their brain is really important. Kids Yoga is an excellent way to get children moving and is something fun that the whole family can do.  Check out the “What I See, I Can Be” book and resources:  http://www.childrensyogabooks.com/products.php
